Balance Sheets and Maths for Family Lawyers (July 2025) – builds on the Financial Disclosure session but can be viewed independently. Runs through the purpose of a Balance Sheet, how to prepare figures using the data from financial disclosure, calculating the net pool. Walking through the full steps on how to calculate the pool, allocations, percentage division and transfer sum / payment required to achieve the desired % division. Acronym to help understand the steps, and a “formula triangle” provided to assist with understanding the maths behind any “spreadsheet or tool” – because we all need to be able to physically run the calculations if the technology stops working in the middle of a mediation! Attendees will be able to confidently prepare a balance sheet from financial disclosure documents, and prepare the preliminary calculations on a range of settlement that you instruct.
